The Green Dream
The Toronto office has been involved in several Habitat For Humanity projects over the years. While this one differs in scale and materials – its purpose is the same. The “Green Dream” house, built entirely from edible materials, will be used to help promote The 2008 Habitat Gingerbread Build fundraiser December 6 & 7. The creative Toronto team consisted of Sarah Ferguson, Reem Abood, Vivian Gabrail, Jenny Hyatt, Genny Rose, with help from Tania Ursomarzo & Carmen Cheung. The theme was of course sustainability, with features including chocolate solar panels, licorice rainwater barrels, a jelly bean green roof and gumdrop wind turbines. The gingerbread houses will be auctioned off to offer ”a ‘hand up’ to children in need of a simple, decent, affordable home. Hundreds of families sign up to build and decorate one, two or several gingerbread houses at this event.”
I think they get extra points for building the world’s first Leed Platinum Gingerbread house!

Love the gumdrop wind turbines and chocolate solar panels. The green roof is sweet, too. I hadn’t realized how environmentally inconsiderate I was when building gingerbread houses as a kid. I wonder if I can buy sugar-offsets to repent for my sins??
