Lighting up your business cards!
The Atlanta office set out on a goal to create a City of Cards out of our outdated business cards. While I was experimenting with ways to create an undulating topography on which this city could sit, I discovered a flexible modular system in which I could create interesting geometries. I found that by placing a compact fluorescent light into the shapes I could create a sustainable, functional work of art: “Card Lamps.”
I have been interested in Buckminster Fuller after seeing a recent lecture on his work by Michael Hayes at Georgia Tech. Ever since that lecture and Green Build in Boston this year, I have been very interested in Modular Design. I think systems like these could be explored with other materials impacting architecture in a sustainable way.
After emailing photos of my lamps to various people, one of my mentors sent me this link. I think it is awesome!

Sooo cool! How creative!
That’s great! Since we moved we have a lot of old business cards too. Very cool.
very cool! we need your step by step instructions.
I have (30) boxes of HOK business cards sitting at my desk, ready to be used. How many lamps do you think I could make with them???
someone in our office makes boxes with covers for thumb tacks! love the lamps!
this is awesome! yay you! do a tutorial!
I like all the unusual.
You gave a lot of good feelings and thoughts. Thanks.
How can I get one???
These are great! Do they come in blue?
Jeremy did a kick a@s job with these fixtures. More to come from the ATL on business card reuse!
