Happy Pi(e) Day!
HOK’s Structural Engineering group held its 2nd Annual Pi Day Celebration in the St. Louis office on Friday. To commemorate the mathematical day (3.14), they brought in tons of tasty pies to share with the entire office. The team also held a contest to see who could remember the most decimals of Pi.
According to Wikipedia, Pi or π is a mathematical constant whose value is the ratio of any circle’s circumference to its diameter in Euclidian space; this is the same value as the ratio of a circle’s area to the square of its radius. It is approximately equal to 3.14159 in the usual decimal notation. π is one of the most important mathematical and physical constants: many formulae from mathematics, science, and engineering involve π.
Our HOK Structures group certainly doesn’t get enough recognition for all the great work they do! They are currently working on the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia; the Wellmark Corporate Headquarters Building in Des Moines, Iowa; Maryville University Health School for Health Professions in St. Louis; Northwestern Memorial Hospital Galter Pavilion Inpatient Conversion in Chicago; Wishard Health Services’ Main Hospital Buildings in Indianapolis; and a confidential corporate campus.

Nicely documented Rachel!
OMG, that is totally the kind of geeky thing my fiends and I would do…it makes me homesick for The House of Pi in houston (best pie shop ever) and jealous of the STL office for coming up with it before we did. now WDC has to wait a whole year. (sigh)
i meant ‘my friends’ but fiends will do. i used to have a friend named david embry that hosted wig and pie parties where everyone had to make a wig and bring a pie. my sister made her wig out of rigatoni and yarn. my wig was a pom pom.
