Hey, Boo Boo!

Hey, Boo Boo! What do you think is in that pic-a-nic basket?

Hey, Boo Boo! What do you think is in that pic-a-nic basket?

Alright, so we didn’t actually have a pic-a-nic basket like the one Yogi always yearned for, but this past Sunday the HOK St. Louis office did have an office pic-a-nic that would make Yogi jeaous.

A long forgotten tradition for the HOK STL office, the Family Picnic was resumed (after a nine year or greater absence – no one knows for sure) at the behest of Rebecca Nolan, Managing Principal of the office. The rest of the office jumped on board and a committee was formed to begin the planning, which landed us at the Ordnance Shelter at Sylvan Springs Park in South St. Louis County for an afternoon of fun, food and festivities.

This picnic had everything you would want in a picnic. Barbecue from Pappy’s Smokehouse (voted the #1 BBQ Restaraunt by the Riverfront Times), ice-cold beverages (especially the stuff from Schlafly), side dishes galore, two tables of desserts, washers, volleyball, croquet, dogs, you name it. More than anything though, there was plenty of camaraderie between those that spend 40 hours a week or more together but rarely find the time to catch up.

All in all, the spirit of the picnic Rebecca was looking for arrived. Now, we can build on this year’s picnic and look forward to next year’s. Maybe then we’ll all bring pic-a-nic baskets.

A special thanks goes out to the Family Picnic Committee members: Tracy Moore, Julie Maggos, Penny Malina, Valerie Greer, Cathleen Feland, Jim Hoffmann, Meagan Sinn, Jeff York and Michelle Pinkston.
