Bike Bash 2009

HOK Tampa’s Anna Vasquez and I participated in the 4th annual Bike Bash by the Bay to promote green connectors to the urban core.  The green connector concept promotes a car free artery into the central business district from surrounding neighborhoods. It provides a multi-modal alternative that is safe and direct while offering a healthy and sustainable option.

We have been presenting our Urban Greenway project all around the bay to various groups and committees and really liked the input shared by the citizens at the Bike Bash. We asked them to share their favorite bike moment with the community by writing it on our table. Needless to say, there were some amazing moments documented; many wrote about how they enjoy their daily commutes better from the bike seat, one offered his story as a 6 year old boy riding a girls bike (basket + flowers) as a passage into manhood, others shared about the wildlife they have encountered.

Small successes have followed Anna and I as we speak about the Urban Greenway and at this event we were interview by WMNF, the local NPR station and asked to present this concept to the Tampa City Council.  Ultimately with enough grass-roots exposure, the Urban Greenway will be a request from the entire Tampa Bay community.

The event was hosted by SWFBUD and the main sponsor was Cure on Wheels, more info at:
