A day at Storm King

So I went to Storm King Art Center over the weekend because it was a beautiful 68 degree day in November and my friend had access to a car for the weekend with free gas.  Storm King is a 500 acre sculpture park about an hour outside NYC in Mountainville, New York.  They have works from many famous sculptors including Alexander Calder, Richard Serra, Andy Goldsworthy, Isamu Noguchi and a new installation from Maya Lin.  There was also a piece from Roy Lichtenstein.  I just thought I’d share a few pictures I took of this awesome place.

As simple as the Serra piece is, I think it was my favorite.   My friend, on the other hand, was not impressed as it’s “just a piece of steel in the ground.”  To each his own.  The Dia:Beacon has a nice collection of Richard Serra sculptures not too far from Storm King as well as a bunch of other pretty rad artwork.  I’ll save that for another post another time.

I love Storm King. Grew up just North of NYC so peak weekend fall trips to that site were a must! Very beautiful and enchanting concept. Glad you enjoyed it.
