Worst Week Ever

Life is Hard!

Ever watch VH1’s Best Week Ever?  Well, this week, I am having quite the opposite!  No, nothing is REALLY wrong and it’s really not the worst week ever … it was just a hard week  (this is where you get to make fun of me for complaining “my life is hard” – just like I make fun of my dog, when after a day of playing outside, he puts his head in my lap, gives me a pathetic look, and sighs really loudly – he too has a really hard life).

So what happened?  Well, the week started out off kilter because I had to work over the weekend to finish up a deliverable, missing a couple of social events.  What else?  Dealing with review comments that should have come earlier.  Covering for a colleague who was out for the week on a business trip.  Showing up at a client meeting with an error-filled document (doesn’t happen often, but really, really, really sucks when it does) – no not the one I worked on over the weekend, that one was OK.  Fixing aforementioned mistake. Which of course threw off everything else.

I missed my favorite class at the gym on Wednesday, so went to a later one (Zumba - which is NOT for the uncoordinated like yours truly). It’s Casual Friday and I’m wearing a suit (which is literally the LAST clean, pressed, meeting-appropriate attire I have because  I haven’t had time for my trashy TV/ironing activity).

I know, I know, pooooor me!  Still, stressful and not the way I like to operate.  I’m 100% your deadline-before-the-deadline-ready-to-go-kind-of-person.

Emma told us about her new technique for reducing work stress.  I usually hit the gym (although probably never Zumba again!).  A nice doggie dance when I get home also helps.  Kitty cat rubs are good too (although that one is apt to bite me to tell me she’s starving to death and needs to be fed NOW – typical cat!).  And sometimes a glass of wine (make fun all you like, but I found some yummy box wine at the grocery store!).

So, how do you get through your worst week  (don’t try to pretend you haven’t had one)!?

jeez, Jodi. I feel for you! I’m going to be working all weekend myself. Sometimes I have to take a step back and get a hold of myself so I am not crabby to everyone. Also, a big glass of wine and an episode of So You Think You Can Dance always makes me feel better at the end of a bad day. and my cat. I just remind myself of the bigger picture, what I like about my job overall and the people I work with (internally and the client side) and try to put the smaller things (that feel huge) in perspective. and I try to think of ways to make it better for future similar instances, what ever ‘it’ is.

Sorry Pookie! I like to lie to myself and say that it’ll be better later. I also like to write or bake when I’ve had a downright rotten day. As you mentioned, the dog waggles are always cheerful! Hopefully writing this blog helped! [Pookie is what a friend calls me when I tell her I've had a bad day, thought it might work on some one else]

Even on a bad you day you kick major ass! You kicked ass all week so hold your head high and let that cool boxer lick it clean of all the self inflicted wounds. I just had a a nice glass of really cold Hanger One Mandarin vodka to ease the pain – kind of like mainlining (Lou Reed style). I ease the stress by cycling – exercise reduces the stress, great scenery takes my mind to another place and if I’m lucky, good friends give me shit along the ride that makes me forget about all big stuff. Enjoy your weekend and here’s a virtual toast to doing good work!

I don’t get to see the work-you but I believe what jim said that you 100% rocked it all! Boxing class usually does the trick for me or going for a run and sprinting til you feel like you might throw-up (which for me is approximately 2 minutes) if physical exertion doesn’t quite do the trick I know I’m in big trouble, so I either go straight to $2.50 wine happy hour or hide under my covers and cry :) Here’s to a better week!!!
