All Aboard!

The HOK St Louis office has been quite busy lately. So busy, some may say, we’ve been just a Chuggin-Along.  Asked by one of our clients, Peabody Energy, to design a tree for inclusion in the Children’s Holiday Festival, we happily hopped on board (man, the puns just keep coming!)

The Children’s Holiday Festival is an annual event to benefit St Louis Children’s Hospital, one of the premier children’s hospitals in the United States.  Trees are elaborately decorated and then auctioned off to the highest bidder.  The winner gets to take home the tree and the hospital gets a bump in funding.

The theme for the tree this year was all about trains – the Peabody Energy Express!  Decorated with glowing homes, shiny brass bells, train tracks and cars, engineer’s caps, and train whistles, the tree towered above other trees.  It was topped by an ornate clock, just about to strike midnight, designed by our in-house model shop.

 Tree detail

From the tree description:

All Abooaaard…. The Peabody Energy Express
Hop on board the Peabody Energy Express for an unforgettable journey to celebrate the magic of the holiday season, the hopes of childhood and the wonders of modern medicine. Our train circles a snowy spruce adorned with warm homes, bright lights, bells and bedtime stories. Our engine has energy to admire, but to see true strength, look no further than the brave young patients of St. Louis Children’s Hospital.  Join us on the journey to power and celebrate the dreams and futures of children and families.

The tree was put together and adorned by a small team of HOK’ers over the Thanksgiving Holiday and is now open for viewing by the public at the St Louis Science Center.  Check it out here for more information and to visit.
