Jason Hamlin

Jason is the senior graphic designer in HOK’s Los Angeles marketing department.

Jason was born in a hospital in Maine that no longer exists. He’s since lived in 10 different U.S cities. He attended the University of Missouri, but eventually graduated from the University of Missouri in Kansas City. There, he earned a degree in creative writing with an emphasis on poetry. His senior thesis involved some strange theory about “truncated short stories,” which may have been more accurate if titled “Unfinished Pieces.” He became a graphic designer when it turned out professional poets were no longer all the rage.

He is firmly planted in Los Angeles, where he rides a fixed-gear bike, plays a ton of guitar and collects silk-screened posters by designers he hopes might one day be famous. All those things aside, Jason recently taught his step-daughter, Wallace, to ride a bike, which he readily admits is “the single coolest thing I have ever accomplished.”

Jason hopes that blogging with fellow HOKers will keep him intensely aware of new ideas and theories, and perhaps even keep him a little off-balance. “My designs seem to be better when there’s very little time to second-guess myself," he says. "It turns out I might be smarter than I give myself credit for. Or, like, whatever.”
