The Original Architecture

No matter what your beliefs on how this world was made, one fact remains: it’s a pretty impressive world.

Once basalt lava flow, when it finally cooled it formed this funky columnar pattern.

Three years ago, my dad invited me out to Colorado for some face time and to camp and backpack at the base of Mt. Elbert in the Pike and San Isabel National Forests near Leadville. After two years of that (and the addition of my brother and brother-in-law), two weeks ago we set off for a new destination, Yellowstone National Park, America’s first National Park.

Now, it’s pure coincidence that we made this trip …

America’s Best Idea Indeed

So I may be the dolt who missed it this weekend, but Mark quickly filled me in and trust me, I WON’T miss it when it comes out officially! 

Ken Burns, the documentary filmmaker who brought the world so many great works (including my favorites, Frank Lloyd Wright  and Mark Twain) now is bringing forth the beauty of America’s National Parks.  The series is coming on PBS on September 27th (which happens to be my birthday! Yay for that!)
